A Field Drowned by 26 Inches of Rain

Another sunny lovely day! Harley's off to the field to combine. They're combining canola. The field has a poor yield because it got drowned out!!!! Normal rainfall for spring, summer is usually 8 inches for a good crop. That particular area got 26 inches this growing season!

Watching the Crab Apple Tree

I take Chewy for a walk almost every day. We always check the crab apple tree (Malus Dolgo). The deer, coyotes or bear are keeping the fallen apples eaten.

Living Among Cougars and Bobcats

Another reason I don't go outside at night is because we have cougars in the area. I've seen one. Every now and then someone in Alberta gets killed by a cougar. We have bobcats, which generally don't hurt people and the much larger Canadian lynx, which have been known to occasionally attack people. I've seen a bobcat bound across our yard on a summer evening at dusk. We had outdoor chickens at the time. They were locked inside the coop at that time and protected by a tall fence for the daytime. Our farm is one mile from the river so wild animals check out our farm often.
